The Newest Ford Escape Model
Ford is beginning its publicity launch for the newest Escape compact utility vehicle. Don’t be surprised if the 2008 Escape is even more reminiscent of its brothers the Ford Explorer and Ford Expedition. It’s style is closer to the two than before.
The interior of the Escape promises drivers and passengers luxury and quietness with versatility. Perhaps one of Ford’s biggest boasts about the 2008 Escape is its interior use of recycled material. In keeping with the “green” automotive manufacturing trend, the maker has used post-industrial materials for its seating.
InterfaceFABRIC estimates that Ford’s use of post-industrial materials, rather than virgin fibers, could conserve an estimated 600,000 gallons of water, an estimated 1.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide equivalents, and the equivalent of more than 7 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

The Chicago Auto Show debuts ZAP Electric XEBRA
Automotive industry leaders are not in question over the emissions efficiency of electric cars, but they are scratching heads over the suggested terminology for electric vehicles such as the ZAP XEBRA. The XEBRA is being debuted at the Chicago Auto Show this upcoming week, innovated by automaker ZAP.
The XEBRA is one of many conservative approaches to answer the plea to the automotive industry from consumers and national leaders to produce modes of transportation that are environmentally conscious. Electric car makers are considering the possibilities of what to call electric power capacity of their creations, and as ZAP suggests with their XEBRA model, perhaps the alternative to Horsepower should be Zebrapower, in keeping with the “less is still more” concept.
Sbragia, owner of Star Motors, aka ZAP of Oak Forrest, Illinois. "The writing is on the wall in the auto industry and green is the name of the game. All the cars at the show this year will be touting MPG, miles per gallon to show how efficient they can be, but here’s a car that has zero miles per gallon. It’s so efficient they will have to come up with a new metric — maybe zebra-power?"

2007 Shows Early Increase in Vehicle Sales and Demand
Hope is building for automobile manufacturing already this year as early sales reports suggest that automakers are seeing some desperately needed buying increase.
The large players in the auto world like Toyota, Honda, and Ford, are crossing fingers that lower gas prices and the strong trend toward environmental interest are convincing potential car buyers to go ahead and buy in. January results speak volumes, however, and the prediction is that this month did indeed show improvement over the same time last year.
Industrywide, sales for the month could be up nearly 1 percent to nearly 1.2 million compared with January 2006, when strong fleet sales propped up results, according to estimates from Edmunds.com, a research Web site for car buyers. Companies report January sales Thursday. Jesse Toprak, chief economist for Edmunds.com, said Toyota Motor Corp. likely will post double-digit gains and Honda Motor Co.’s sales could rise nearly 10 percent.
Car companies continue to make advances towards energy efficient and emissions reducing vehicles, knowing that those are the two key factors in regaining a glowing reputation with consumers.

Device will initiate multiple tasks from a distance.
GM is soon to debut a high-tech version of the key fobs currently available that performs eeveral routine maintenance functions, including checking tire pressure. Tire pressure checks are frequently neglected by about half of the US car-owning population, according to the article. Improper pressure is a contributing cause of many car accidents.
General Motors soon will introduce a remote control that does a lot more than unlock doors and allow pickpockets to find the car that goes with the keys they’ve boosted.
The high-tech key fob will check tire pressures, fuel level and odometer readings from a distance, displaying the numbers on a digital screen. You’ll also be able to tune the radio from the safety and security of your own pocket, so you don’t have to suffer through two seconds of the wrong station when you start the car. The $150 option will show up first on Ostentation Class trucks like the Cadillac Escalade.

Department of Energy seeking to reduce foreign dependence on oil.
The Department of Energy is dedicating funds to increase fuel efficiency, $14 million towards support of plug-in hybrid electric automobile technology, and another $3 million towards improving engine efficiency.
DOE’s FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies Program will lead the efforts to bring new, more efficient technologies to market with research on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and E85-blended fuel.
The $14 million cost-shared solicitation for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle battery development aims to improve battery performance so that plug-in hybrid vehicles can deliver the 40 miles of electric range required for most roundtrip daily commutes. DOE has also created a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle test bed at DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory; allowing scientists to measure the performance of a vehicle.
The $3 million cost-shared solicitation will support engineering advances to improve the fuel economy of E85 engines and reduce vehicle emissions. The solicitation also serves to undertake research and development projects that will result in flex-fuel vehicles, which take advantage of the favorable properties of ethanol gasoline blends. E85 can be used in flex-fuel vehicles and is a gasoline-ethanol blend of motor fuel containing 85% ethanol. E85 has the highest oxygen content of any fuel available today, allowing it to burn more completely – and cleaner – than conventional gasoline.
