All consumer products have to be accompanied by a warranty, an agreement under which the product manufacturer or supplier promises to maintain the product, for a period of time. The warranty is offered all types of consumer products, including automobiles. The warranty issued to automobiles is called car warranty, given by the auto dealer. The auto warranty is issued on the basis of two factors. The warranty is issued up to three years from the date of the sale of the car depending on the make. Similarly, the warranty is issued up to 30,000 miles covered by the vehicle. There is a third category of warranty, which is an combination of the two factors. Under this category, the warranty period will be valid till whichever comes first. It is advised that car owners exercise utmost caution while selecting the warranty for the car. The warranty takes care of the entire car. However, the cost of the replacement of spare parts and accessories damaged in road accidents has to be borne by the car owner. The replacement of these damaged spare parts cannot be claimed under the warranty since it covers only genuine manufacturing defects.
