Why Pickups May Not Be The Best Family Vehicles

images-2.jpgRecent tests show that pickup trucks aren’t as safe as people originally thought.  For instance, the Nissan Navara received just one out of five stars for adult safety.  In fact, the Navara has a life-threatening risk of injury.  In addition, the Navara only received three out of five stars for child protection, and two for pedestrian.

The Isuzu Rodeo has also been faced with lots of criticism because it only received two out of five stars for adult protection.  The Rodeo has also received an unacceptable rating for life threatening injuries.  This vehicle got one star for pedestrian protection and two for protection of children.

However, Isuzu says that they did internal testing of the Rodeo and it got three stars.  Also, it had a great record with real accidents.

Also low scoring in the safety category is the Mitsubishi L200.  Although this pickup got four stars for adult protection, it only received three stars for child protection and one for pedestrian protection.

Pickup truck manufacturers have recently been adding attractive options for families, yet according to safety ratings pickups aren’t the best choice for families.  However, pickup truck owners should make sure they have a good auto warranty, since you never know when you will have to pay for repairs.

How To Reduce Drunk Drivers During The Holidays

images-167.jpgUnfortunately, drunk driving is a common practice that is responsible for thousands of car accidents and calls for emergency roadside assistance every year.  Ideally, motorists should take responsibility and not get behind the wheel after drinking, but this doesn’t always happen.

Toyota has taken this matter seriously.  Currently, they are in the process of developing a system for vehicles in which cars are able to detect if a driver is drunk.  If the vehicle detects that the motorist is trying to drive while intoxicated it will shut down the car automatically.

Vehicles that have this detection system will have sweat sensors on the steering wheel, which detect abnormal alcohol levels in a person’s bloodstream.  The car won’t even start if there are high alcohol levels in the driver.

This system will also become affective if abnormal steering is detected, or if a camera determines that the pupils of the driver’s eyes aren’t focused.  The vehicle will then slowly come to a stop.

Toyota hopes to have cars equipped with this system by late 2009.

Nissan Motor has also experimented with devices similar to breathalyzers that can detect drunken drivers.  Other technologies that are similar, like alcohol ignition interlocks, are already being used in the U.S. and other countries.

Toyota and Nissan have taken a step in the right direction.  Hopefully, these new car safety features will cut down on auto accidents and road service calls.  In addition, drivers need to protect themselves with an auto warranty.

Anyone Can Parallel Park

images-164.jpgIt is apparent that Ford is looking to give its buyers an assist, at least the consumers purchasing a 2010 Lincoln MKS or MKT.  In mid-year 2009, these vehicles are going to come equipped with the Active Park Assist system, which literally will parallel park the car automatically.  Ford’s MKT is a brand new crossover that is going to make its debut next month at the Detroit auto show.

Ford’s system is very similar to the one that is found on the Lexus LS 460.  However, instead of using cameras, this system uses a sensing system that is ultrasonic-based.

Ford says there are a few advantages over the technology that Lexus is using.  First of all, drivers can use Ford’s system if they are parking in a downhill situation, and Ford says its system has improved reliability and speed while parking.

This technology could prove to be very beneficial to drivers; however, drivers should protect themselves with a good auto warranty.  After all, you never know when you will find yourself needing repairs on new technology.

How To Make The Car Buying Process Easier

images-161.jpgIf you’re considering purchasing a new or used vehicle, you should do a few things first.  You can make the process of buying a car easier, and save yourself some money by following a few simple tips.

First of all, you should consider purchasing a pre-owned car.  New vehicles will immediately lose about 30% of their value when they are driven out of the dealership lot.  A used car will save you from losing that immediate depreciation.

Try to purchase a vehicle that is fuel-efficient.  There are an endless amount of new hybrid options and cars that will save you money at the gas pump.  With the variety of choices out there, there is no need to purchase a vehicle that guzzles gas.

If at all possible, save for a decent down payment.  A lot of motorists will barely put any money down on a vehicle and don’t understand why their payments the first four years are so high.  Putting down 20% will make a big difference in lowering monthly payments.

Lastly, buy an auto warranty along with your car purchase.  Many consumers try to get away with not doing this and they end up spending an unnecessary amount of money on repairs down the road.

Follow these simple tips to save yourself a headache.  Do your homework before getting to the dealership in order to make the best decisions.

What Are The Best Family Cars?

images-158.jpgWhen it comes time to purchase a family car, there are several considerations.  First, you have to think about having plenty of seats and cargo space so your family is comfortable.  Next, you need to find a car with good fuel economy, low maintenance costs, dependability and most importantly, safety.  That is a lot to ask of any car, and with all of the options out there, which car should you purchase?  Here are some top picks.

Surprisingly, the Suzuki XL7 is a great overall SUV.  You can get this car fully loaded for $29,000 with a fantastic auto warranty.  It comes complete with all-wheel drive, a DVD system, power everything, leather seats, and a 3.6-liter V6.  It also has a curvy exterior with a sporty, modern look.

If you’re looking for a great sporty sedan, the VW Passat is an excellent choice.  This car ranges from $23,915 to $39,140.  The Passat has excellent style, drivability, fuel-efficiency, and of course price.  In addition, it has a lot of high tech features, and the safety rating is excellent.

Crossovers are very popular, and the Mazda CX-7 is a great family vehicle in this category.  With a $23,750 base price, the CX-7 has room for five people, and it has a striking appearance.  Its drivability is excellent with its 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection.  This car’s interior is classy, modern and comfortable.

Finding the perfect family vehicle can be challenging.  It is important to do your homework to find the vehicle that suits your family the most.  Also, your new vehicle should have an auto warranty that will protect your against unnecessary repair expenses down the road.

Men Get Turned On By Fast Driving

images-157.jpgAs it turns out, the stereotypes happen to be true.  Expensive vehicles and fast driving cause men’s testosterone levels to spike, reveals a study from Concordia University John Molson School of Business.

The study involved 39 men who volunteered.  Each of the men was told to drive down a pedestrian loaded street, as well as a calm residential road.  They drove each of these streets twice, each in different cars.  The cars were a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet and a 93’ Toyota Camry.  A sample of saliva was taken by researchers after each drive in order to measure the testosterone levels of the men.

According to the results, it didn’t matter which street they were driving on, however after driving the Porsche the men always demonstrated an elevated and sustained level of testosterone.

The author claims that men use expensive and powerful cars as sort of “sexual signaling devices”, much like male peacocks do when they show their tail feathers.  One thing is for sure though, although men are busy trying to impress women with their hot cars, they still need to buy an auto warranty to protect them.

Mazda’s New Start-Stop Engine

images-156.jpgBMW already uses a start-stop engine for their non-hybrid European 1 and 3 Series, but Mazda is in the process of developing a version that is more efficient.  Mazda’s system that has been independently developed is called Smart Idle Stop System.  According to the company, this system will improve fuel-efficiency by around 10%.

The unique thing about Mazda’s system is how it restarts the powertrain.  Engine restart is initiated by employing the direct-injection system to spurt gas and ignite it under the specific conditions needed to make a downward force on the pistons that is perfect, seamlessly restarting the engine.  According to Mazda, drivers won’t feel any delay because it will only take 0.35 seconds to resume driving.

Mazda’s system appears to be a lot simpler than most other start-stop systems, which are commonly attached to hybrid systems.  Also, it will cost and weigh less than GMs mild hybrid system.  If Mazda combines this system with their new turbo, which is fuel-efficient, it could boost fuel-efficiency by about 40% in a few years, without any expensive hybrid technology.

Just remember, with any new car technology you should protect yourself by purchasing an auto warranty.  After all, you want peace of mind that you won’t have to pay unnecessary repair costs.

It’s Easy To Extend The Life Of Your Vehicle

images-154.jpgWith the high gas prices and poor economy, drivers are feeling the pinch.  And while you don’t have control over costs, such as gas prices, maintenance, and an auto warranty, you do have the power to maintain your vehicle’s value by making it last longer.  Your choice is to buy a new vehicle every few years, or to maintain your current one.  Here are some tips to keep your old gem running great.

Perhaps the most important thing you can do for your car is to get regular oil changes and have your oil filter replaced regularly.  In addition, don’t forget about your air filter.  Changing this will allow your vehicle to breathe easier and help your engine last longer.

Don’t forget about your vehicle’s cooling system.  Keep coolant levels as recommended by your owner’s manual to avoid an engine melt down.  You wouldn’t think that a simple act such as this would save you from major repairs, but neglecting to do this will have you using your auto warranty more than you would like to.

The least expensive maintenance tip is to make sure your tires are inflated to the proper levels. However, the benefits of this are immense.  You will get better fuel-efficiency, have your tires last longer and have a safer vehicle.

Find a mechanic that you trust and use him for all of your car service.  This way he can get familiar with your car and know your car from the inside out.

If you want to avoid purchasing a new car right now, follow these service tips to keep your current car running like a champ.  And, make sure you purchase used car warranties so you don’t have unnecessary repair costs down the road.

Don’t Neglect The Exterior Of Your Car

images-153.jpgMany people maintain their car under the hood but neglect their car’s exterior.  To freshen up your car and make it look brand new, follow these simple tips.

To care for your car’s exterior start by giving it a comprehensive washing.  You’ll want to remove all of the mud and grime that has built up on your car.

Make sure to use a pH balanced wash on your car.  You should avoid harsh detergents because they will strip off the car wax on your vehicle.

After a good car washing, make an evaluation of the surface of your vehicle.  You can do this by rubbing your hand along the surface of your vehicle.  If the surface feels rough on your hand, chances are you have bugs, tar, or water deposits.  These things need to be removed before you wax your car.

After doing these things it is time to put a car polish and wax on your car to protect it’s finish from harmful elements.

Make sure to be proactive when it comes to taking care of your car.  This includes maintenance, washing, waxing, and buying an auto warranty.

How To Recognize If A Car Has Water Damage

images-1501.jpgIt is a huge disappointment to buy a vehicle just to find out that it literally has an ocean of problems.

Unfortunately, there are a large number of vehicles on the market within the last five years that have experienced flooding, rain or hurricanes.  In fact, the number of cars has doubled.  In certain states it has been reported that there has been an increase of six times more cars damaged by water than five years ago.

Many times, cars with water damage are moved from flooding regions to areas that are less suspicious.  The cars are then back on the used car market, often disguised and rebuilt.

It can be difficult for consumers to be able to recognize if a vehicle has experienced water damage, and yet the car will literally rot inside and out.  In addition, the mechanical systems of a vehicle can be threatened or ruined without any visible signs on the exterior of the car.

Sales this year are predicted to reach around 45 million this year, so motorists should be on alert for water damage.  In addition, purchasing an auto warranty is a smart idea to protect your wallet in case of unforeseen repairs down the road.
