The business of used car warranties

The used car warranty is often usually a limited coverage version of the new car warranty. The prospect of covering, or insuring, a used car against breakdown and wear and tear repairs is a lot more daunting than it is when considering the same for the new car – at least for the company backing the claim.

Therefore its obvious for one to assume that the used car owner would stand to benefit the most from a used car warranty. We take for granted that business is business, and every risk must be converted into a profitable investment.

Most of us used car owners accept the fact that the used car warranty provides only a limited coverage for our vehicles, and we do appreciate that we can make the use of it in terms of compensation when it comes time to repairing or maintaining our used vehicles. But the investor does not go home empty handed either – the majority of the parts of the used car that may be covered by the limited coverage are often not parts that we would regularly replace or which would need regular maintenance. This therefore means that fewer claims are filed or awarded, and the business continues to be a booming one.

How the aftermarket auto warranty could benefit you

I think the aftermarket auto warranty was an ingenious idea.  Imagine now that you do not have to settle for the warranty coverage your car dealer offers you with your vehicle purchase.  I could upgrade my warranty coverage, so to speak, by simply buying an aftermarket auto warranty with the coverage that I did not have before.  In fact, now I can turn my basic limited warranty coverage package for my car into a fully comprehensive one!

And in addition to being able to extend the coverage on my vehicle, I am also able to extend the warranty life of my coverage in general by purchasing the aftermarket auto warranty!  Now it is quite true that if my car warranty is due to expire in a couple of months that it will expire.  But by purchasing an aftermarket auto warranty while my existing warranty is valid, I am able to ensure that my vehicle coverage is constant – that as soon as one becomes void the other ‘kicks in’ so to speak!

Purchasing an aftermarket auto warranty would also allow me the benefit of extending the mileage coverage of my vehicle.  Some aftermarket warranties do in fact allow mileage coverage of up to one hundred thousand miles – of course though that is dependent on the condition of your vehicle at the time of the purchase.

Saving money with the used car warranty

The used car warranty should definitely be among those important pieces of papers that should be carried at all times when driving.  You might wonder why I say this; after all, it is not as important as the car insurance.  Wrong – the used car warranty is in fact one of the more beneficial services that the used car owner can have.

While the car insurance is beneficial for coverage in times when something beyond your control occurs (like fire, theft or accident), the warranty is good for simply those times when you need basic maintenance or repairs.  The major difference between the coverage provided by these two documents is the major reason why the used car warranty is often disregarded or taken for granted.

But consider carefully that the used car is often in need of maintenance and service repairs.  Consider that you are more likely to experience a breakdown with your used car than you are to get into an accident or to have someone steal your used car.  Consider now the cost of repairing and maintaining your used car on a monthly or yearly basis, and consider now whether or not the used car warranty is as valuable an asset as I think it is.

Got a Lemon?

Warranty is a service offered by the vehicle dealer that includes repair and maintenance of the vehicle for a duration prescribed under the agreement. As per the agreement, the dealer will be responsible for repairs and maintenance of the power train, drive train, brake mechanism and steering system. But the agreement does not cover the replacement of expensive spare parts. Besides, some warranties do not apply if the vehicle is involved in an accident. There are two categories of warranty. The new car warranty is issued to brand new vehicles delivered from showrooms. The used car warranty is issued to cars sold in the aftermarket period or pre-owned cars.

There are possibilities of fraudulent used car warranties being offered to the car owners.  To protect car owners against used car warranty fraud, the US government has evolved a special law. It is also know as lemon law. If you are offered a fraudulent used car warranty, you can seek protection under the lemon law.
Review at least 10 different warranty offers before finalizing one. This is necessary to eliminate the chances of fraudulent used car warranty.  Do not opt for warranty, which has fancy features. Settle for a short duration warranty.

More about the aftermarket auto warranty

The aftermarket auto warranty, also known as the extended auto warranty, is simply that warranty which provides extra or additional warranty coverage to a vehicle with an existing warranty.  It may also be used to provide warranty coverage for the vehicle without any current warranty coverage.

The aftermarket auto warranty, also likened to a service warranty, is one that must be purchased separately from the vehicle during purchasing transactions.  It may or may not be purchased simultaneously with the vehicle however, and it can be purchased from any other dealer or provider for a stipulated period after the purchase of the vehicle and still be able to provide coverage for the vehicle during the time lapse between the two purchases.
The aftermarket auto warranty may be able to extend the coverage on a vehicle whose existing warranty coverage is due to expire soon, or it may be able to extend the terms of the coverage such that a limited warranty coverage may be converted into a fully comprehensive coverage.  Likewise, it may be able to extend the mileage coverage on a vehicle.  For the vehicle without any warranty coverage, it can be selected to provide any type of coverage that the vehicle owner may desire.

What you should know about used car warranties

Many used car vehicle owners fail to understand the benefits of a used car warranty simply because many are not aware that they are entitled to one when buying a used car from a dealer.  Many people are in fact not aware that they can get a used car warranty, and many assume indeed that the used car often enough does not come with warranty coverage simply because it is a used car.

On the contrary however, many states insist that used cars be sold with a buyer’s guide that stipulates full details on the warranty coverage provided with the car.  The types of used car warranties vary, so that the unsuspecting individual purchasing the car must be wary of the type of coverage that he or she is getting.

Most used car warranties are limited, offering coverage to only the most basic parts of the vehicle.  It is very rare to find used cars being sold with fully comprehensive warranties unless it is in fact a used new car – that is to say, if the manufacturers warranty is still valid then it may or may not be directly transferable to the new vehicle owner.

Responsible information about used car warranties

When purchasing a used car, it is often quite easy to overlook the importance of the used car warranty.  This is because a lot of people are under the impression that only brand new cars are entitled to warranties, so they do not ask questions and the persons or dealers selling the used car do not offer answers.

On the contrary though, it is often the law to have at least minimum coverage for the used car, and it is the responsibility of the person or dealer selling the car to provide this used car warranty coverage to you.  Often they do so but fail to inform the inexperienced person purchasing the used car that they automatically have warranty coverage and what having used car warranty coverage would mean to the vehicle owner.
The used car warranty can come with a variety of features which would find variations in both coverage type and mileage coverage.  Most used cars only get mileage coverage for about fifty thousand miles, but some used car warranties allow up to one hundred thousand mile coverage based on the type of vehicle and its present condition.  Other warranties provide coverage for all the parts of the car that easily wear and tear, while others still would provide coverage for breakdown repairs.

Age taboos and its relation to the used car warranty

A used car warranty is the warranty which provides coverage for auto vehicles that are considered used.  Many people think of a used car as being one which is battered and old and has passed from owner to owner in an attempt to find a resting home, but a used car is indeed one that has been used at some point or another – not necessarily transferred to more than one owner or not necessarily old and battered.  In fact, most used cars sold by auto dealers are in fact new cars that may have only been driven a few miles and returned for one reason or another.

The used car warranty covers the used vehicle as long as it meets certain requirements, which would deem it as being safe and fit for the road.  One of the criteria as judging the safety of a vehicle is its age.  A vehicle’s age is not only measured by the registration number of the vehicle, but also by its mileage meter.  If a vehicle is more than ten years old or has been used over fifty thousand miles, then getting a used car warranty would be very difficult because you vehicle would have moved out of the acceptable age limit for safe coverage.

Making the most of your repairs with a used car warranty

Investing in a used car is often not much of an issue with the average person who cannot afford anything but the used car. Not many appreciate just how risky the used car purchase can be. The used car is one that has been through the hands of one or more prior owners, and you have no way of identifying just how badly abused it was. Many people would replace the really worn parts of the car or apply shinny paint jobs to the body to make it look good, but truth is you will not know the real condition of your used car until you have driven it for a week or more yourself. I know because I speak from experience. Thankfully though my used car purchase included a used car warranty in the purchase agreement, so I was not completely out of sorts when I had to carry out maintenance repairs on my car within the first month of its purchase (on top of the loan that I was already paying for this car).

My used car warranty was a limited warranty (it still covered my maintenance though). Used car warranties can also provide full coverage for your used car, or they may be unwritten warranties which are implicitly implied in some states.

Know lemon law

Warranty is a service rendered by the vehicle dealer in association with a local firm towards the maintenance of the car or any vehicle. Usually, a warranty is considered as the life insurance of a vehicle.

What the warranty basically does is takes care of the repair and maintenance costs of the vehicle for a particular period of time in case it suffers a breakdown. The warranty covers repairs relating to the drive train, power train, steering system, and engine However, it does not cover the cost relating to the replacement of defective spare parts.

Once the car is placed in the ‘used car market’, the warranty is no longer valuable after its original period expires. While purchasing a used car, make sure that the warranty has not expired. According to the rules, a dealer cannot sell a used car without issuing a fresh warranty.

There have been instances of fraudulent warranties being issued to owners of used cars. Such actions are liable for punishment. The Used car law is also known as the lemon law because of its flexibility. The used car law differs from state to state. However, one common feature to the used car law in all the states is the protection offered to the car buyers.

At the time of purchasing the used car, a customer can exercise his or her right to purchase a warranty of his or her choice.
