Warranty for pre-owned cars
Any product if found defective within a specified period from the date of sale is entitled to be replaced by the manufacturer. Either a part of the product or the entire product has to be replaced. This practice is called warranty. It is applicable to all categories of products, including cars. There are two types of warranty for cars. They are new car warranty and used car warranty. There are specially coded rules and regulations to protect the interests of consumers. It is called used car warranty law and new car warranty law.
New car warranty is issued to brand new cars while used car warranty is issued to pre-owned cars or those cars sold in the aftermarket. Normally, in used car market, a plenty of fraudulent warranties are in circulation. Such warranties promise a number of features and services, which are not delivered normally. Therefore, the US government has evolved a special law to protect the consumers against fraudulent used car warranty. It is also called lemon law. Under this law, auto dealers who fail to deliver the services promised can be taken to the court of law. Generally, the regulations of used car warranty law are common across the US.
