Warranty for vehicles


A warranty refers to an assurance given by a product manufacturer to repair, maintain and replace if found defective within a specified period of time from the date of its sale. The warranty applies to all kinds of consumer products. Under US law, it is an offense to sell a consumer product without a valid warranty. The warranty has been made mandatory to protect the consumers’ interest. It is aimed at providing value for money to the consumers. Warranty is also issued to all kinds of automobiles. The warrant for vehicles is called as an auto warranty.

The features under auto warranty are multiple. Normally, the auto warranty period is up to two years from the date of its sale. Some luxury vehicles, have an extended warranty, up to three years. During this period if any spare part of the vehicle is found to have a genuine manufacturing defective, the car manufacturer is liable to repair it or replace it to the satisfaction of the owner. No fee has to be levied on the customer. However, the cost of the replacement of expensive spare parts is not covered under the warranty. Similarly, spare parts damaged in accidents cannot be replaced under warranty.
